Manchester United Welcomes First Wheelchair-Using Mascot: Bobby Moore's Story

There are moments that show exactly why we do what we do, and last week, one of those moments played out at Old Trafford.
Bobby Moore recently made history as Manchester United’s first-ever wheelchair-using mascot, leading the team out alongside captain Bruno Fernandes. Bobby is a young boy from Northern Ireland who has been supported by Designability, the disability charity our London SciPro team has proudly partnered with since 2019.
His story is featured in Bobby’s Wizzybug Wheelchair Story, a Silver award winner in the People’s Choice category at the 2025 Smiley Charity Film Awards. The short film highlights how receiving a Wizzybug powered wheelchair at just two years old gave Bobby the independence to attend mainstream school and take part in the sport he loves most, football.
That same story came to life at Old Trafford, where Bobby’s appearance as mascot was a powerful reflection of what inclusive design can make possible. It captured everything Designability stands for, confidence, independence, and accessibility, and reminded us just how impactful continued support can be for children and families navigating mobility challenges.
How SciPro Supports Designability to Fund Life Changing Mobility Devices
Over the past five years, we’ve raised a total of £25,000 to support Designability, funding five WizzyBugs, electric powered wheelchairs designed for young children. Each one supports up to four users over its lifespan, meaning 25 families have benefited from greater mobility and independence.
In 2024, we set out to raise £5,000 to fund the production of a WizzyBug, and we exceeded this goal, raising just over £7,000 by the end of the year.
What started as a single initiative has become a long-term partnership, one that continues to make a real difference.
What Comes Next in Our Partnership with Designability
Bobby’s unforgettable appearance at Old Trafford is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when inclusive design, community support, and charity partnerships come together.
Our fundraising success to date has been driven by the passion of the SciPro and LHi community. From endurance events to gala evenings, individuals across the business have consistently stepped up to support Designability in meaningful ways. As Ed Bevans, Head of SciPro London, shared:
“Instead of relying on one big event, we’ve had numerous individuals stepping up, each contributing in their own way. Collectively, this has made all the difference.”
In 2025, we’re proud to be continuing our work with Designability, building on everything we’ve achieved together so far, and staying focused on creating real impact for children and families who need it most.
